Really simple and inexpensive to make. You could replace xiao bai cai with gai lan, spinach, broccoli or your favourite vegetable.
Recipe (for 2)
-- SimplyFrugalInSG original recipe --
200 g xiao bai cai
enough water to boil the vegetable
1/2 tsp salt
enough ice water to soak the vegetable
1 tbsp cooking oil
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 tsp light soya sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
Add salt to a pot of water and bring the water to boil. Blanch xiao bai cai for about 20 seconds. Quickly remove the vegetable from boiling water and plunge them in ice water. Once the vegetable cool, drain and transfer to plate.
Heat up cooking oil in a saucepan. Fry garlic until lightly brown. Remove saucepan from fire. The residual heat will continue to cook the garlic to a golden brown.
Drizzle light soya sauce, sesame oil, fried garlic and garlic oil over the vegetable.
